Ear Wax Removal

Ear Wax Removal

Ear Wax is a waxy substance produced by glands in your ear canal to protect your ears from germs.  It helps protect the ear by trapping dust, dirt and other particles, preventing them from reaching the eardrum. Some people are naturally prone to Ear Wax building up in their ears and may need frequent treatment to remove it when it becomes a problem.

What is the purpose of ear wax?

Acts as a waterproof lining for your ear canal.

Carries dead skin cells and other debris out of your ears.

Traps dirt and dust.

Prevents your ears from drying out.

Protects against bacterial and fungal infections.

Symptoms of blocked ears?

Dizziness

Earache

Reduced Hearing

Vertigo (spinning sensation)

Tinnitus (ringing sounds)

Itchiness in or around your ear

We use Microsuction and Ear Irrigation to gently and safely remove Ear Wax. The type of method used will be depend on a number of different factors including your medical history and eardrum condition.  During the consultation our Audiologist will determine which method is suitable for you.

What is micro suction?

Micro suction is one of the best ways to remove Ear Wax. We use a gentle suction device to remove any ear wax blockages. This suction device acts like a vacuum cleaner, helping to loosen and remove any impacted ear wax.  It is a quick and painless procedure performed by a qualified Audiologist.

What is Ear Irrigation?

It is a method used to remove excess ear wax by gently flushing the ear canal with water. It can help dislodge and remove stubborn wax build-up.

What to do before your procedure?

Use olive oil (Earol spray) 3-4 times a day for a few days prior your Ear Wax removal appointment. Unfortunately, due to lack of funding GP surgeries have stopped ear wax removal service and due to the high demand, we will. What happens during the appointment? Your appointment can last from 30-40 minutes. You will need to fill a medical history form to ensure the correct method is used and there are no medical reasons for further referral.  You will also need to sign a consent form during the appointment. Next we will examine your ears using a Video Otoscope and then we will carry out the Ear Wax removal procedure using microsuction or ear irrigation and sometimes both methods. Both procedures are painless, safe and efficient at removing Ear Wax.

Prices Both ears - £70 If no ear wax is found and the ear wax removal procedure is not necessary. A reduced fee of £40 will be payable. Book your appointment today!

  • My doctors have stopped ear wax removal. Both my ears were blocked for weeks and I was feeling dizzy. I’m so grateful the Audiologist came to my house and the wax removal procedure was safe and pain-free.

  • The procedure was safe, pain free and fast. I’m happy this was done in my home as I get anxious in medical settings and clinics. I can hear better now and feel normal again. Thank you 😊
